jaded roués and gay divorces who lunch at the Ritz (NYC Pt. 1)
It's been a hot minute, so let's recap my lovely Thanksgiving trip to see my brother:
DAY ONE (Nov. 20th)
Up at the ungodly hour of 3:30am to get ready and be at the airport by 5am. Was doped up on a ton of antihistamines and cold medicine, and once I got through security I made a beeline for Starbucks and a medicine ball and some breakfast.
Thank God it worked, because once we were in the air I was out like a damn light. It was that weird kind of airplane sleep, where I am sleeping by I know that I'm listening to a podcast too? Either way, I slept for about two hours with little coughing or stuffiness. The ears hurt a bit, but much better than the day before. Also, when did I become so nonchalant about flying? Flying used to scare the bejesus out of me. My first plane trip was to London when I was 15, and they had to knock my ass out with Dramamine because I was about to cause a scene. Now: I love it. So weird. Anyway, here's a pretty picture of some clouds.
Delta got me to NYC and once I touched down it was time for mass transit to get me to Brooklyn. The weather was a brisk 46F, which while not warm, it was slightly warmer than when I was here back in March. I was good with my jacket and scarf. Also, glad I still had my Metrocard from my last visit, but more on that in a later entry.
After making friends with a nice Brooklyn lady who was waiting for the same bus, I made it to Red Hook. So, after three visits I have decided that I could never live in Manhattan. I would have to live in Brooklyn. While I love the big city, it is absolutely just too much for me. Brooklyn though? It's quiet, the people are chill, you have all the amenities of big city living without all the lights and sounds. I hoofed it to my favorite coffee shop (Baked, with a cappuccino and a scone because I am that basic bitch) and waited for the brother to finish at school.
So after getting into the apartment, we headed off to dinner and wait for his girlfriend to join us. We dined at The Copperpot (down the street from Baked) and just....sinfully good. Not pictured is the chorizo mac n cheese I had and the delicious stout the waiter suggested. There was good conversation and catching up because I haven't seen Krisanne since March and my brother since July. It was just perfect. Came back home and I unpacked in the guest room and just sat there and talked.
So that was day one. Days 2-5 are coming soon. I need to finish up one last assignment for my ELL class and try to get my allergies under control (still). But we are officially in my favorite time of year, it's the best month of the year, and just....it's all good fam. So yeah, see you on the flip side. More to come later.
